FIDM, or the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is undoubtedly California’s premier fashion school. The school has four primary campus located in major cities throughout California, including: Los Angeles, San Franscisco, Orange County, and San Diego. No other fashion school in California is more focused on the education of those who wish to pursue a career in the fashion industry. However, as focused on education as this college is, they also know that California has so much more to offer prospective students.
Focus, Fun, & Fashion!
Here’s an excerpt from FIDM’s website that truly captures the overall feel of what attending a fashion school in California is like…
There’s no other place quite like California, from the seemingly endless sun to the adventurous spirit rooted in the frontier mentality. It’s no surprise that this is where trends begin. Or, that of the 100 fastest-growing companies in the nation, nearly 30 of them are here. California is bursting at the seams with excitement and creativity; the Hollywood studios, Beverly Hills shopping, and celebrity-inspired chic of Los Angeles; the San Francisco Bay Area’s innovative hi-tech industry and awe-inspiring beauty; San Diego’s major port; and Orange County’s dynamic surf and sportswear industry and international apparel manufacturers. FIDM’s four campuses are located in key cities along the Pacific Rim, in major commercial centers (translation: careers!), and all are within a day’s drive of winter skiing, summer beach-going, and year-round play.
How can you top that?!
Balance Your Fashion Education
Those of us with a strong interest in fashion understand that fashion is an art. It is an art that requires endless inspiration to fuel our creative minds. I like that FIDM recognizes that there is so [wp_ad_camp_1]much beauty, excitement, and energy in California in particular, to provide fashion students with that necessary supply of inspirational fuel.
Let’s face it, college is hard work. It’s stressful. You absolutely must have the drive, determination, and discipline to succeed in a high competition industry like fashion design and fashion merchandising. But there needs to be more to it! Too much drive, determination, and discipline can be too much of a good thing. You need the time away from the intense focus and discipline that is required in today’s educational environment. You need the work/play balance to keep from burning out or losing touch with your creative side.
California Inspires Fashion
What better place to play than in California! Quite simply, there is so much to do! Not only is there an abundance of things to do, but there is a wide variety of things to do. Few states in our nation offer a more vast and varied topography – mountains, valleys, oceanfront, vineyards, forests, deserts, and on… California offers the prospective fashion student all of these wonderful natural features to submerge your creative senses deep within. Do not discount this, especially if you are designer!
So much in fashion is inspired by our environment and surroundings. Environment influences everything from fabric to color choices and everything in between. California fashion schools give you that advantage over schools located anywhere else in the nation (and maybe even the world).
